My decision to homeschool

So I am a full time working mother of two children. I had heard about homeschooling but never really considered going that route because I always thought a homeschooling mom would have to be a stay at home mom. I work for the public school system so I know the importance of educating our children. Then I started to take note of the new teaching standards and the way they are complicating simple math problems. I also started to think why are students in school for 6-7 hours a day and still have to come home and do 2-3 hours of homework? I starting looking into different options for my children. I came across articles on homeschooling. It all sounded wonderful but I figured I would have to quit my job to stay home to home school my children. The more I researched and read the more I realized I can do this. The beauty of homeschooling is you can be flexible with your schedule, you can customize learning according to your child's learning style, and you can focus on the areas they are struggling in. Instead of your child receiving instruction with 30 other students, they are getting 1 to 1 time to truly grasp concepts, subjects, and skills.
I researched the different teaching styles, from traditional school at home all the way to the other side of the spectrum with unschooling. I have made the choice to be an eclectic homeschooler, which means I will be flexible to use different styles. Maybe even a little bit of everything. I hope you can follow us through our first year of homeschooling, maybe you will be interesting in homeschooling your children.
